Citizenship

About 160,000 people receive Canadian citizenship every year.

Many people don’t realize that Canada recognizes dual citizenship as well.  For example, people can have both a U.S. and a Canadian passport, and sometimes even more.  Therefore you are usually allowed to pursue both a U.S. and a Canadian immigration process.

Children born to a Canadian parent, even if they are not born or living in Canada, may be allowed to obtain their Canadian citizenship automatically.  They must apply for a Certificate of Canadian Citizenship, which will then let them obtain a Canadian passport.
