In 2005, Veronique Malka moved to the U.S.A. from Canada, where she had been an Ontario lawyer for a decade. With her hands full raising a young family, studying and taking the New York bar to be able to practice was just not an option at the time. Instead, Veronique teamed up with an established U.S. immigration practice, offering Canadian outbound services to that firm’s clients. This was a revolutionary concept at the time, when remote legal practice was not yet a known concept. Veronique was the 12th Foreign Legal Consultant admitted to the New Jersey bar, allowing her to practice Canadian immigration law from New Jersey. Eventually, as the children got older, Veronique was able to become a New York Consultant and she was admitted to the Massachusetts bar as a U.S. lawyer.
Fast forward 20 years, the Canadian Law Group LLC (“CLG”) has grown into an established cross-border immigration law firm with a focus on movement of business professionals and individuals between the U.S. and Canada. Veronique and her cross-border team are all dual citizens or dual residents themselves. The team has a solid grasp of what it means to “have a foot in both countries.” The firm has a solid network of cross-border advisers in tax, for financial advice, and corporate law so that each client’ situation is handled in a holistic manner. At Canadian Law Group, you are not just a number; we care about each and every client and their family. Start-ups chose CLG because they quickly realize that Veronique is herself a cutting edge entrepreneur, and not the typical lawyer concerned about billing and getting as many clients as possible.
In this video, Canadian Law Group Founder and Managing Lawyer Véronique Malka, esq. shares why she feels it is important to truly listen to your client as an immigration lawyer, to better understand their relocation goals. For CLG, a client file is not just paperwork. We are a people firm.
